COLLEGES AND CAMPUS

Colleges Nine and Ten: Centering Student and Community Experiences in Research

Wednesday, June 5
3:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Namaste Lounge

In this event, we highlight accomplishments of students at Colleges Nine and Ten involved in two programs unique to our colleges: (H)ACER and Slug Stories. (H)ACER is a new program at Colleges Nine and Ten providing undergraduate students with a variety of opportunities to learn with and from the local community and produce knowledge that diversifies the voices and perspectives represented within academia. In collaboration with our community partners, students engage in projects that address pressing issues such as social, economic, educational, and environmental injustice through an approach that pushes against deficit and damage-centered frameworks and honors the knowledges of community members. Slug Stories is an archival and research program in which undergraduates write, perform and undertake research on personal narratives that reflect their struggles, aspirations, successes, epiphanies, etc. These rich stories resonate deeply with issues important to student success (e.g., resilience, sense of belonging, connection to place, identity formation).
