Students are recognized for their achievements in research and other scholarly activities during Student Achievement Week, June 2 – 6, 2014. Many presented their work publicly through a myriad of events -- everything from the Annual Print Sale, art exhibitions, and theater productions to a sciences and engineering poster symposium..

Irwin Scholars Exhibition 2014

Sesnon Gallery, Porter College
The Sesnon Gallery’s annual Irwin Scholarship Award exhibition showcases some of UCSC’s most promising young artists working in painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, installation, video, digital media and social practice. The William Hyde and Susan Benteen Irwin Scholarship Fund was established in 1986, generating annual merit scholarships to further the education of selected UC Santa Cruz arts students.

Celebration of the Arts: 1st Annual Arts Division Spring Exhibition

Celebration of the Arts showcases the talents and achievements of our students and features student work from all six departments/programs within the Arts Division: Art, Film and Digital Media, Digital Art and New Media, History of Art and Visual Culture, Music, and Theater Arts. UCSC 40th Annual Print Sale
Friday, June 6 & Satruday, June 7
10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Location: Printmaking Studio, Room G-101, Baskin Visual Arts Center
Hundreds of original etchings, lithographs, woodcuts, digital prints, handmade books, and more! A unique opportunity to see and purchase high quality hand made artwork, meet the artists and tour the exceptional art facilities at UCSC. Profits benefit the student artists and the UCSC Printmaking Program.
Coinciding with the Print Sale on Friday is the Student Photo Sale and the UCSC Art Department's Open Studios (12-4 pm on Friday only).

8th Annual Social Documentation Graduate Exhibition

An evening of documentary films from student of the Film and Digital Media's Social Documentation program. UCSC's SocDoc program is a one-of-a-kind program designed for future documentarians committed to social change and to documenting communities, cultures, issues, and individuals. With training from professionals outstanding in their fields, students gain the skills and confidence to enter the increasingly sophisticated world of documentary production. Free, open to the public.

Eurasian Ensemble Concert: Central Asian traditional music and dance
Saturday, June 7 - 3:00 p.m.
Music Center Recital Hall (UCSC)
Master dutarist and Honored Artist of Uzbekistan, Malika Ziyaeva, travels from Tashkent, Uzbekistan, to join master frame drummer and Honored Artist of Uzbekistan, Abbos Kosimov, and the 12 members of UCSC's Eurasian Ensemble for an afternoon of Central Asian traditional music and dance. Students will perform Uzbek folk songs and dances, as well as classical maqom on dutar (two-stringed lute), doyra (frame drum), and voice. Tanya Merchant, director. Admission is free. Parking $4.

Shakespeare To Go: "Hamlet"

This year, a company of UCSC students perform a 1-hour version of "Hamlet" in what will be an energetic and inventive presentation. After performing all spring in area schools, this is the group's final performance of the season! Free and open to the public. Parking $4.

You are cordially invited to Spring Awards 2014 on Thursday, May 29, 2014. This annual “Celebrating Humanities” event is an important opportunity to acknowledge those who have achieved special recognition, awards, and distinctions over the course of this past year.
The Humanities Undergraduate Research Awards (HUGRA) support and encourage undergraduate research. In 1996, the Humanities Division began awarding students undertaking truly innovating research projects. The projects must involve research within or including any of the humanities disciplines, and the research must be performed during the current academic year.
